Reason for joining PCs4KIDS:I am interested in helping with PCs4KIDS because through learning programming I have seen the power that just a computer and access to knowledge has to change the course of someone’s life. Role in Project: UX/Graphic Designer

Experience: Went to school in Saskatchewan, Canada for Graphic design but decided she needed to learn more. She moved to San Francisco, California to gain more knowledge and experience. She recently completed her studies in Visual Media Design and now has been running her own company for the last year, working with clients across North America.

Reason for joining PCs4KIDS:United Nations is known for giving back to the community, to the world. I wanted to be a part of something big. When I saw that there was a volunteer position that was helping children across the world with an education I knew this as something I must be a part of. There’s so much going on in the world now, with situations I can’t even begin to comprehend. Being a part of this organization gives me a feeling that I am doing something. Volunteering is a great opportunity to grow, both as a designer and as a person. It is a great way to make connections and learn from others. The best is being able to give something back and know that it is highly appreciated and not needing the recognition, but knowing deep down that you did something that made a difference

Role in Project: Chief Marketing Officer

Experience: Executive Education from Yale School of Management, Bachelors in Information Systems
Driving above, through, and below the line marketing campaigns and leading digital strategy and execution for leading corporates. Multiple business critical sales and marketing technology implementations.

Reason for joining PCs4KIDS: With a breadth of experience and intellectual curiosity about all things digital, I am acutely aware of the benefits that proficiency in, and understanding of digital technologies can have.
Living in both developed and developing nations has allowed me to see the growth in the digital and education divide and I believe that PCs4Kids has an honorable mission and great team to help tackle this problem. The platforms strength in providing education in and engaging, non-traditional format to those without traditional access to internet not only promotes key education outcomes that will have a lasting impact on their lives, but works to provide digital literacy, something increasingly key to their development and future education.
Beyond this, I am beyond proud of the work that goes in to ensuring anything that we receive goes straight through to the intended recipients, the children; and the complete transparency this brings.

Experience: Jim is a rocket scientist who always had the urge to “do good”. Jim gained experience working with a network of international volunteers as part of Space Generation which hooked him: “You can do really amazing things with only a handful of people as long as they are aligned!” 🙂

Reason for starting PCs4KIDS: Jim and his wife have 4 children, so when he asked himself: “What do I find most important in life?” the answer was: “Children! In particular children’ lives.” PCs4KIDS tries to enhance the lives of (less-priviledged) children through self-education.

Role in Project: Lead for Azerbaijan + Linux Lead

Reason for joining PCs4KIDS: There are several reasons, why I’ve joined to PCs4KIDs. The reason number one — helping people is my hobby. So I try to help anyone, who really needs help. The second reason — I do love GNU/Linux and doing my best to share it with people, to develop and grow up the OSS and GNU/Linux community. And growing up kids, who have worked with Linux during their childhood — it’s an amazing idea. And the last reason, why i’ve joined this project — I want to increase my Linux administration skills and meet some new friends, who has the same ideology.
